Well, when I worked at the biggest mall in America (Mall of America if you guys couldn't guess), it was unbearable for all four years but it has given me great knowledge of peak crowd hours and great deals. While many of you may head out to shops the day after Christmas to spend your fresh batch of gift cards, you may want to know this great tip before spending them all that day.
- Wait until you are three weeks into January to shop. This is especially the case if you shop at malls with brand names such as Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Aeropostale, etc. The benefits of waiting are:
- Stores need to get rid of pre-holiday/holiday items before their spring floor sets (around February) and will have savings up to 70-80% off.
- The majority of high school and college students will be back in school so there won't be crowds clawing at the same items you want, which saves time and effort!
- Stores know you're out to spend your money so they're going to make you think they're selling all of their items with drastically reduced rates the days after Christmas. The sale signs are there to make you think you're getting a bargain but in reality, sales like "buy 2 get 1 free" will likely still be there the next week or the week after.
This is the third year I waited until the third week of January to shop and I brought along three of my cousins. They were all amazed at how many items they bought for so little $$. So here's my haul:
- Typo Coffee Mug: Originally $12.95. Bought for $2.10.
- Typo Mustache Pencil Case: Originally $9.95. Bought for $1.40.
- Typo Journal Diary: Originally $14.95. Bought for $1.40.
- Forever 21 Blue Sequin Sweater: Originally $22.80. Bought for $4.49.
- Forever 21 High-Waisted Shorts: Originally $17.80. Bought for $5.49.
- Gilly Hicks Undies: Originally $8.50 each. Bought for $2.90 each. (I bought four)
- Ragstock Wool Hobo Mittens: Originally $12.99. Bought for $5.20.
Haul originally: $122.44. Spent: $31.68. A total savings of $90.76!
It's always such an exciting and happy feeling when your savings is more than what you spent but an even more exciting feeling when it's almost three times what you spent! Happy post-holidays everyone, hope this tip was helpful!
P.S. This mug is just darling. :)
